2017 marks the 150th Birthday of Canada and what better place to celebrate than in Canada’s Capital Region – Ottawa. Canadians, and international visitors alike, will gather to experience Ottawa has it has never been seen before, with key icon events happening through the year. Staying at the Courtyard by Marriott Ottawa Downtown to experience these events is easy, just park the car and walk to almost everything!
The edgy-looking entertainment locale fabricated of sea shipping containers will be located on York Street, and will be home to a succession of special exhibits and performing arts events. Each one will showcase Canada’s provinces and territories from May 20th to September 4th, 2017.
Red Bull Rallycross
For the first time in its seven-year history, Red Bull Global Rallycross will head to Canada for two rounds of action June 17 & 18 – and it’s happening right here, in Ottawa, at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum!
The double header event utilizing portions of the Rockcliffe Airport. The course will feature long straightaways and wide-open corners, allowing the 600-horsepower Supercars to reach top speed. The paved main course and Joker Lap will merge leading into the dirt section, just before cars fly over the finish line on the series’ signature 70-foot jump. With grandstands set throughout the dirt section and up to the finish, fans will be up close to some of the most exciting moments of the 2017 season.
Underground multi-media experience:
Take part of an unforgettable underground experience with a futuristic and immersive multimedia production that will last approximately 10 weeks in the Summer of 2017. This event will highlight the once-in-a lifetime infrastructure project that will offer a new era of transportation in the nation’s capital.
Ottawa will be home to the 105th Grey Cup! The annual football championship game of the CFL will be played at TD Place Stadium at Lansdowne Park on Sunday, November 26th, 2017.
2017 Canadian Videogame awards:
Ottawa will be a gamer’s delight in 2017. The Canadian Videogame Awards will be coming to Ottawa in November 2017, and will also host the national championship for gamers. Semi-finals and final matches will be projected in monumental proportions onto building across Ottawa. The gala celebration will be held at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum.
2017 Scotiabank NHL100 Classic
The Ottawa Senators play the Montréal Canadiens in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the very first National Hockey League game, which took place in the nation’s capital in 1917.
August 27 - Pull up a chair to Canada’s Table, an unprecedented culinary experience where Canada’s world-class food, wine and hospitality will be showcased at a single, 1000-person, open-air table on Wellington Street. This succulent event is presented in collaboration with Restaurateur Stephen Beckta and Chef Mike Moffatt of Beckta, Play and Gezellig restaurants, along with Sheila Whyte of Thyme & Again Catering.
Magnificence of Chaudière Falls
Fall 2017 - In fall 2017, an ambient lighting display will illuminate the falls. Accompanied by a rich soundscape, the experience will evoke the culture of Indigenous people and in particular highlight the Algonquin heritage of the region.
June 30 through October 15 - MosaïCanada 150/Gatineau 2017 is a spectacular horticultural celebration celebrating the art of mosaiculture and a tribute to Canada's 150 years of history.
Canada's 10 provinces and 3 territories, as well as First Nations Québec and Labrador, unite to present 33 masterful works over five historical sectors. The horticultural friendship uniting Canada with Shanghai and Beijing has also led to coloured works of art which will delight your eye.
